About Outer Edge

Gav's Story

After spending years building and running a successful eight-figure venture capital company, I reached a point where the work no longer matched the person I was becoming. The boardrooms, the suits, the endless cycle of growth-at-all-costs — it had served its purpose, but it was not where my energy belonged anymore.

What I kept coming back to was the SME space. The business owners who are too big to wing it but too small to afford the kind of operational thinking that the corporates take for granted. That is where transformation actually matters — where getting systems right changes someone's life, not just their quarterly report.

That is when I teamed up with Ben. We had known each other for years, and the more we talked, the more obvious it became that what he had built with Yoonet — 15 years of real-world operational infrastructure — was the perfect foundation for the kind of work I wanted to do. He had the systems and the team. I had the strategic lens and the commercial experience. Together, we could offer something neither of us could alone.

Outer Edge is not just a business for me. It is a deliberate choice to follow a passion for meaningful work, to escape the drudgery of a life that looked successful but felt hollow, and to build something that lets me be present for my family in a way that is authentic to how I actually want to live. The SME owners we work with understand that — because most of them started their businesses for exactly the same reason.

Ben's Story

Fifteen years ago, I started a business with a laptop and a belief that small companies deserved the same operational firepower as the big corporates. What began as a one-person outsourcing experiment in the Philippines grew into Yoonet — a fully incorporated BPO operation with over 100 staff based in Bataan. Along the way, I was adopted as a son of Balanga City, a recognition that still means more to me than any business award. That relationship is not a footnote in our story. It is the story.

Over 15 years, we have invested more than $9 million directly into the Balanga community — wages, infrastructure, training, and opportunity. That investment has created something you cannot replicate with a short-term contract or a freelancer marketplace: genuine loyalty, deep institutional knowledge, and a team that treats your business like their own. Every system we have built, every process we have refined, every mistake we have learned from — it all happened in the real world, with real clients and real stakes.

I am not an academic or a management consultant who read a book about transformation. I am someone who has spent 15 years doing it — building teams across two countries, bridging time zones and cultures, implementing technology that actually gets used, and learning the hard way what works and what does not. That lived experience is what Outer Edge is built on.

The Yoonet Connection

Outer Edge exists because of Yoonet. Fifteen years of figuring out how to make offshore teams genuinely work for small and medium-sized businesses. Fifteen years of implementing systems that people actually use, not systems that gather dust after the consultant leaves. Fifteen years of bridging the gap between how a business operates today and how it could operate with the right technology and the right people.

Outer Edge is the consultancy arm. We assess, map, and design the transformation your business needs. Yoonet is the engine — the operational infrastructure that makes implementation possible. When we recommend a process change, we have already tested it across hundreds of client engagements. When we suggest an AI tool, we have already deployed it in our own operations. When we talk about offshore team integration, we are drawing on a decade and a half of doing exactly that.

This combination is something no other New Zealand consultancy can offer. Strategic advice backed by genuine execution capability. Not theory — practice.

Why Dunedin

A deliberate choice. Operating a global consultancy from the South Island of New Zealand is part of the point. Geography is not a constraint when your systems are right — and that is proof of concept for everything we teach.

Our clients are spread across New Zealand and increasingly across the Tasman. Our operational team is in the Philippines. Our technology stack connects everything seamlessly. If we can run a 100-person operation from Dunedin, serving clients in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Sydney, then your business can absolutely operate beyond its current physical boundaries too. Dunedin is not a limitation. It is a demonstration.

The Team

Outer Edge is not a one-person operation. Our leadership team — Honey, Gav, Em, Sarah, Nicole — brings together operational management, technology, HR, and client delivery across New Zealand and the Philippines. Each person has been shaped by years of working inside the Yoonet ecosystem, which means they understand the practical reality of transformation — not just the theory.

When you work with Outer Edge, you get the depth of a team that has been building, testing, and refining these systems together for years. That continuity matters. It is the difference between a consultant who parachutes in with a slide deck and a team that stays alongside you until the work is done.

Human-in-the-Loop

AI is a tool, not a replacement. That is not a slogan — it is a position backed by evidence. A landmark study from Harvard Business School and Boston Consulting Group found that consultants using AI completed 12.2% more tasks, worked 25.1% faster, and produced results at 40% higher quality than those working without it. But here is the critical part: combined human-AI systems achieve 88% accuracy, compared to just 77% for full automation alone.

The best outcomes do not come from replacing experienced people with AI. They come from giving experienced people better tools. Your 20 years of industry knowledge combined with the right AI implementation creates an unfair advantage that neither humans nor machines can achieve on their own. That is the approach we take with every engagement: find where your expertise and AI capability intersect, then build systems that amplify both.

We are not here to automate you out of your own business. We are here to make sure that when AI reshapes your industry — and it will — you are the one holding the controls.
