We use AI every day at Outer Edge. For drafting SOPs, analysing processes, structuring proposals, building internal tools, and thinking through complex operational problems. It's not a novelty any more — it's infrastructure. And after working seriously with most of the major AI platforms over the past two years, we've landed on Claude as our primary tool.
This isn't a product review or a sponsored post. It's a practitioner's perspective on why Claude — built by Anthropic — has become the default in our workflows, and why we think it's worth serious consideration for any business that uses AI beyond surface-level prompts.
Context is everything
The single biggest differentiator for Claude, in our experience, is context handling. When you're working on a complex business problem — say, mapping a 40-step workflow across three departments — you need the AI to hold the full picture in its head while you work through the details.
Claude's context window is massive. It can take in an entire operations manual, or a full codebase, or a multi-page proposal — and reason about it coherently from start to finish. Most other tools start to lose the thread partway through. They forget what you said ten prompts ago. They contradict themselves. Claude doesn't do that, at least not nearly as often.
For real business use, this matters more than anything. You're not writing one-off social media captions. You're working through layered problems that require sustained reasoning. That's where Claude pulls ahead.
Reasoning, not just generation
There's a meaningful difference between an AI that generates text and one that reasons through problems. A lot of AI tools are very good at producing fluent, confident-sounding output. But when you dig in, the logic doesn't always hold up.
Claude is noticeably stronger at structured thinking. When we ask it to evaluate a process, it doesn't just describe it — it identifies gaps, suggests alternatives, and explains trade-offs. When it writes a proposal draft, the structure is logical and the recommendations connect to the analysis. It reasons about the problem, not just around it.
That said, it's not infallible. It can still get things wrong, and we always review its output. But the hit rate on first-pass quality is consistently higher than what we've seen from other tools.
Safety isn't boring — it's practical
Anthropic's focus on AI safety gets a lot of attention in tech circles. For us, it has a very practical upside: Claude is less likely to hallucinate confidently, less likely to produce harmful or misleading output, and more likely to flag when it's uncertain.
In a business context, that matters. If you're using AI to help draft client-facing documents or inform business decisions, you need to trust that the tool isn't making things up. Claude is genuinely more honest about what it doesn't know, and that makes it more trustworthy as a working tool — not less useful, but more reliable.
We'd rather have a tool that says "I'm not sure about this" than one that gives us a polished wrong answer.
How we actually use it
Here are some real examples from the last month:
- Drafting and refining SOPs for offshore team onboarding. Claude takes a rough process description and structures it into a clean, step-by-step document with decision points and escalation paths.
- Analysing client workflows. We feed in process maps and ask Claude to identify redundancies, risks, and automation opportunities. It consistently catches things we might have missed on the first pass.
- Building internal tools. Claude Code — their coding assistant — has become part of how we develop custom applications. It understands full codebases and can make meaningful contributions across complex projects.
- Writing proposals. Not from scratch — but taking our thinking and structuring it into clear, professional documents that we then refine.
In every case, the pattern is the same: Claude accelerates the work, and we make the decisions. Human-in-the-loop, every time.
What it's not
Claude isn't a magic bullet. It doesn't replace strategic thinking. It doesn't replace domain expertise. And it definitely doesn't replace the human judgement that comes from years of working in a specific industry.
What it does is compress the time between thinking and output. It handles the structural work so we can focus on the substance. And because of its reasoning capabilities and context handling, it does this more reliably than the alternatives we've tested.
Worth exploring
If you're a business owner or operator who uses AI — or wants to — Claude is worth a serious look. Not because it's trendy, but because it's genuinely built for the kind of work that businesses actually do: complex, multi-step, detail-rich problems that require sustained attention.
We're not paid to say this. We just use the tool, every day, and it makes our work better. That's the only recommendation that matters.
